I Do Follow… Really!

Apparently it looked like I was maybe trying to cheat. But I’m not.

I had done a post months back on using Nofollow or Dofollow.   It was entitled  “What is NoFollow | DoFollow | I Follow?

Actually, when I updated my blog design a few months back (August), Home with Heather was without the plugin for a few weeks.  But as soon as I realized that was the case I went on a hunt for the plugin that would suite the needs of Home with Heather the best.

Lucia’s Linky Love is the plugin of choice, because you can easily customize the options to suite the needs of your blog.

I think it’s great to use Do Follow, but I think it there should be some qualifiers.  I don’t like “human comment spam” and I don’t feel it should be rewarded by getting a link with DoFollow blogs.

Allowing DoFollow on your blog, I think, is a way to reward your readers for participating in your community by leaving a relevant, thoughtful comment.  I get comments all the time with fake emails saying something like “Nice Blog - thankyou”, and they do that just to get a link back.  No way I want to reward these kinds of comments with link love.

What I do want to reward are readers/commenters who visit often and participate.  This will increase the comments and get a discussion going on the blog.  Isn’t that what every nonofollow.gifblogger is striving for?  Lucia’s Linky Love is perfect for setting this up.  You decide when you allow DoFollow privileages by setting the number of comments that need to be left before links are given.  I really like that idea.  It really cuts down on the one comment fly-by and helps to create a sense of community.

Lucia’s Linky Love also allows you to customize other things like not enabling DoFollow on posts that are older than a certain number of days, or with names that are overly long.  It does encourage links and trackbacks.  Check out the complete details at Lucia’s blog.  I think it’s a really great solution.

For some reason I had my number of comments set to 7 (not sure why) the default is 3 and so I have corrected that this morning.  But for everyone wondering if my plugin is working, the answer is yes.  It’s working just fine.

Do check out Lucia’s page, she has some great stuff.  I also hope to chat with you soon in the comments section.  ;)

Expect the Best,

Another LLL user here :), it’s a great dofollow plugin from what I’ve seen from it so far. Giving my regular commenters a link back through it is a good thing I’d say, rewards them for sticking time into dropping a comment and doesn’t really cost me any effort.

Just like with any plugin I must say I know the situation of forgetting to activate it again after a theme update, it’s simply so easy to forget at those moments.

I had to disable this plugin today as it doesn’t seem to follow and work properly on the latest WP platform. I had to resort to using another plugin instead as some of my readers commented on getting a no follow.

    Hopefully it’ll work out now.

@ Slevi - Thanks for stopping by. What was really bad about being locked out is that it was my own fault. Couldn’t even blame anyone for it

@ Heather - Thank you :) I’m glad I have been able to give you something that helps

@fc - LOL I would think they would be moderated. I guess it would depend on the day… maybe I’d give them the link just for trying so hard :D (kidding)

@ Monika - I’m running 2.2 on this site, haven’t upgraded yet. It may be something to ask about before I upgrade, because I really do like the plugin.

I have also removed the “no follow” from the comments area at my blog. The whole idea of the tag is to prevent spam, but it also prevents from following links to peoples blogs
making good comments. Please visit my blog, and make a comment - I follow.
