OMG - Laughed My A$$ Off

Totally off topic.

My mother phoned this morning. Seems she’s decided it’s time to start cleaning and purging out her basement. Keep in mind she has a 6 bedroom house and has lived in it for close to 30 years. There is A LOT of stuff to go through.

So she’s been finding ‘treasures’ all day. Some of the stuff I’m sure is not anything to keep, she just doesn’t have the heart to throw it out. But some stuff was good…

She found a box FULL of my school year books!!!!! I had her bring them over right away.

OMG - I thought I had lost those books 20 years ago, and I thought they were gone for good. When I first moved out, I moved many, many times inside of a year and I just thought it was a box that had been lost because I haven’t been able to find it in that long. In fact, I thought I had looked in mom’s basement years back. Guess I must not have looked in the right spot. ;)

So instead of getting any kind of meaningful work done this afternoon, I’ve been going through all of these old yearbooks from the ’80’s.

I have to say…

What the hell were we thinking?!? What was with that HAIR  and those glasses… they covered your whole, entire face!!!!

It’s one thing to see the 80’s hair in old movies. But seeing it on my friends, and me!!! Holy crap, it’s a good thing that was just a trend and that it stayed in the 80’s.

It was really fun to spend some time going through the books. Certainly something that I will treasure.

I’ve said before on this blog that “I didn’t do school much”. It was more fun to go to school, pick up my friends (I was the one with the car) and go for coffee, or to try and get in some sort of trouble for the day!! :)

After high school I didn’t keep in touch with most people from school. I had forgotten many of them. It was really cool to see the books, brought back many memories.  Some good… some not so good.

So that’s it for my break, better get back at it.  If you want a good laugh, go pull out your old yearbooks, grab a cup of coffee and have a look.

Expect the Best,

Sunday Funny

I haven’t done a Sunday funny post in what seems like forever.

I do hope you are enjoying your weekend wherever you’re reading this from.

Here in Alberta where I’m located we are having a heck of a storm blow in this afternoon. I actually just got back from a highway run to pick up my youngest son. Is is ever nasty out there!!
Blowing snow and the temp has dropped about 25 degrees in the matter of a few hours. The weather is forecasting temps of about -45 C  for tomorrow with the wind chill. That will sure make me want to get out of bed in the morning… not!!

Anyway, I like to put up these posts as a way to show my appreciation for you my readers. My sister has really gotten me onto this guy lately. I just love Jeff Dunham, think he’s hilarious. Looks like Peanut was having a bit of a bad day

Enjoy!!

Some Chit Chat and Updates…

First I just have to say that you Americans sure mean business on Black Friday. Wow, no matter where I went online yesterday it was just dead(unless it was a place trying to sell stuff  ).

I would not have wanted to get in your way… and as a terrible shopper I’d have to say there would be NO WAY you’d have seen me out on Black Friday, even if I lived in the there.

We have our Canadian equivalent to Black Friday the day after Christmas, called Boxing Day. Crazy shoppers get out and brave the crowds very early in the morning searching for the best deal. NOT ME - I never enjoyed shopping, and no way do I go to a store when it’s crazy busy… hell I even do my to avoid Saturday shopping, as a stay at home mom, I have that option. ;)

Anyway, I hope you all found amazing deals and are that much closer to having your Christmas shopping done.

Now for the chit chat and updates…

I’m taking off in the morning for a weeks vacation. We did the exact same holiday last year, and the kids had a blast. By this time of year, my kids are certainly ready for a break from school. My oldest is so excited to go, and my youngest even gets a sparkle in his eye when I tell him we’re going swimming again.

I wasn’t really wanting to go this year and would have much rather canceled the vacation. I’m feeling a huge rush with just getting back home after the renovation, Christmas Eve being only one month from today  and my youngest going in for some surgery yet before Christmas.

No way I need a week of relaxation right now, right? Well that’s what I was thinking until this morning. I’ll get everything done, I always do. And hey, if I don’t it won’t be the worst thing in the world. I’ve kind of been in a funk lately, and maybe a week away will be the rest I need to get my head on straight again.

I’m trying to prepare some posts for you while I’m gone, so you don’t forget to visit Home with Heather, and leave me some comment love ;) Today I’m packing and blogging. Last day of working for a week, might be a nice change.

We will get back next Saturday, or Sunday and then my youngest goes in for some surgery on December 4th. I’ll make sure I stop in and say hey before then.

I hope you Americans are enjoying the rest of your holiday weekend, and having lots of great family time to boot. :)

Not Enough Brain Power

O.K., so I’m tired.

It’s been a long week and I just can’t get into posting you something of substance tonight. Besides I’m sure by now most of my American friends are full to the brim of turkey and all the trimmings just trying to find a comfy position to relax and digest. ;)

I hope you all had a wonderful turkey day…

So I decided to get on showing you some pictures of my renovation. I’ve been asked several times to post some. I’m finally to a place where I’m organized and ready to do that. Though I do still have some work to do.

My reno started for a few reasons. Firstly, last year I was intending on moving to an acreage. Well, that wasn’t in the cards and the offer I had put in fell through. I am very grateful for that and because I’ve always loved the home that we are in, I decided to renovate it and make it my ‘forever’ home (I’m not moving again… way to much work :) ). Secondly, my youngest has some special physical requirements (he’s in a wheelchair) that required me to re-model parts of this house to make things work better. Third, I was just tired of the way things were looking and ready for an update.

Unfortunately, I don’t have digital pictures of what the kitchen looked like prior to the reno, but here are a few pics of the finished product.

My kitchen prior to the reno had cabinets that the doors were falling off of. I had tried to perk them up a few years back with some paint and stenciling. It looked OK, but man these new oak cabinets are fabulous.

Also having them custom built, I was able to have the design that I chose.

This dining room suite is very special to me and I’m proud to have it in my kitchen. It is an honor, and a responsibility. You see, it belonged to my grandparents, and is now a very special family treasure.

The living room got some much needed color, and a new set of window coverings. I just love the way it turned out.

bath.JPG

I had to rip some walls out of the bathroom and raise the tub. It needed to be wheelchair accessible for my youngest son. Turned out very well, and looks huge compared to what it was.

My new home office is done with the custom cabinets in the kitchen. I love it. It’s in the most central place in my house. The place where I will spend the majority of my time. And now, I can see everything that’s going on in the house. It will be good. :)

So there you have it - a brief tour. I also finished painting the bedrooms and changing the flooring through out the main level. The changes were so significant that when I first moved back home, it didn’t even feel like my house. I’m feeling pretty comfy now though;)

If you’re interested in seeing more of the before, during and after photos, you can check them out in a myspace album that I’ve made up.

Hope that turkey is starting to digest and that you are all rested up if you choose to brave the mall tomorrow to get your Christmas shopping done.

Here’s Your Sunday Funny….

It’s been a great week for me. Getting back home, and back to routine (sort of). We are still trying to unpack, organize and decorate. The kids and animals are back to being themselves and seemingly more well adjusted. Even though I did as much as I could to keep things normal, it’s hard when you’re not it your own home.

I post these Sunday Funnies as a way of just taking a break, chilling out with my readers and relaxing.

Today is Remembrance Day here in Canada and Veterans Day in the U.S. so instead of just having a Sunday Funny, I wanted to post this video that really makes you stop to think. I’m certainly not going to get in a discussion on the wars that are raging today, but I do think it’s important to stop and take time to remember all our fallen soldiers.

… and here is the Sunday Funny - a new comic from blaugh.com

As always I’d like to say thank you to my readers for continuing to support Home with Heather, I really do appreciate you. Take time to relax and enjoy today. Spend time with loved ones as you take time to remember.

Expect the Best,

Here’s Your Sunday Funny….

Hope you’ve had a fantastic week.

I was out shopping this week to get things for the house, and the stores have been flooded with Christmas decorations, gift ideas, trinkets and holiday food. Wow, it’ll be Christmas time in just a few weeks. It seems like it shows up faster each and every year.

I find so many cute things for my Sunday Funny from my friends over at Facebook. I found this one on Robert’s page.

Are you still working in an office? Then maybe you can relate to this video…

Too Funny! Maybe they should work from home :D

You know how you can get a song running through your head? Mine are usually songs from Barney or the Wiggles (for my son), but all weekend I’ve had a song running through my head by Kenny Chesney. It’s his new song - “Don’t Blink”. That song is just profound to me.

It’s great to be ambitious and want to get it done, but make sure you take time ALWAYS to enjoy. Enjoy your kids, your partner, your home, family and friends. I’ve learned this year that things can change too much too fast sometimes, so always take time to appreciate and be grateful.

Hugs to You…

Here’s Your Sunday (Halloween) Funny…

Time for Halloween already. Wow some folks are really big into it. I haven’t even gone out to get my kids costume yet. I guess I’d better get that done today.

Every year I think it will be the last year my oldest talks me into going out trick or treating, but then the next year comes along and he talks me into it yet again. I told him this is the last year for sure. I hate giving out candy to kids that are taller than me. I think trick or treating should be for the little ones.

Kind of fun.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

Expect the Best,
