February Action Plan
With all the ups and downs on Home with Heather over the last several months, I’ve been really wondering what is the best use of the hours I have available to devote to blogging. A few days ago, I wrote about Daily Posts. Are you Wasting Your time? It’s a question that has really peaked my curiosity.
I’ve decided to do a bit of testing in February, and then share my results at the end of the month.
To date, as I write this post January has shown the following on Home with Heather. Again, please keep in mind that this is my slowest blogging month in a long time but I do need some numbers to start with…
- Unique Visitors - 2603
- Number of Visits - 6203
- Page Views - 46288
- RSS Subscribers - 90
- Posts written - 11
- Tech Authority - 166
At this point, I’m not even making any predictions or goals as to where I want to be at the end of the month in terms of visitors or traffic.
I’m curious, and I guess my real question is this. What is a more effective use of time:
- Writing a quality post everyday
- Writing only half the amounts of post, but spending time in the community commenting and showing support for other bloggers.
My plan is quit simply this.
I will only be posting 15 different articles through out the month of February rather than by normal 30 - 40 posts/month. I will then be devoting extra time on:
- commenting other blogs
- getting to the social networking sites I enjoy on a daily basis
- getting to know other bloggers and help them out with their networking.
I been noticing a few of my own blog reading habits as I’m going through my Bloglines everyday. The sites that have posted 3 and 4 articles in a day I rarely read them all. Who has that kind of time? I just skim the headlines. The blogs that don’t post everyday, I generally spend more time on. I’ve also noticed that my own ‘filler’ posts don’t get viewed nearly as many times as the post full of content you’re looking for.
I’ve also noticed that I always go and check out the blogs of people who leave comments on HWH, or that have visited me through one of the social networking sites. Do other people do that as well?
So that’s the plan… Short but sweet. I will be very interested to see how the month of February results. Will it be a huge failure, or a great success?
Expect the Best,

February Action Plan…
Do you ever wonder what the best use of your blogging time is?I’ve been really curious lately what is a better way to go about getting more traffic, and just getting your blog out there more. Writing a post everyday, or spending time in the comm…

Hi Heather,
I understand where you are coming from. I have actually slowed my posts down to see if I pick up more traffic, less , or if it simply doesn’t make a difference. I was posting every single day. I sometines had too much to post and worried if people would give up trying to keep up.
Since I am use to posting often, I panic alittle when I ‘ve gone a couple of days with nothing new. Something I will have to get use to, because I am determined to write higher quality post but less of them.
So far I have been unable to detect any changes to my traffic pattern.
We are in a very interesting business with lots of variables.
Thanks for your thoughts on the matter.

Hi Heather,
I have been quite active lately when it comes to marketing my blog.It has been one post per day, some commenting on other related blogs and social sites. However, one thing that I realized recently: Why not write some more on old blog posts that I have written? In this business you learn more every day and when you get to the point that you have 150+ articles, it is quite easy to write more on old blog posts.Perhaps this helps the SEO too as this is “fresh food” for the search engines. Just my thoughts…

Heather, sounds like you have a good plan ! … do you mind if I make a suggestion that I know will help you exceed it?
On my blog I have a recent post on Mentoring Awards. Read the comments and specifically one I made after Michelle McPherson. Follow that link I provided and you are guaranteed to at least double your goal if you use her checklist - it is simple one of the best

@ Nick - I know what you mean about the panic when you don’t post. Now that I’m back into a blogging routine, it feels strange not to post everyday.
@ Tom - That’s also a great idea. Enjoyed your post on MBL
@ Alex - Thanks for that info. I’ll be by to check it out

Hi Heather,
However, I’ll catch up with you one day. I do comment on your blog and a few other blogs regularly. But I need to increase the number of blogs I visit and comment to make my blog visible to them. Lots of things to do. Long hours and long days ahead for me.
sounds like a cool plan. I do have an action plan for February, but unlike you, I can’t reveal my numbers, as they are abysmally low.

Woo hoo; just noticed. Comment luv plugin has traced my latest post. Finally, perseverance, both yours and mine, has paid off.

Just noticed that too Kris.
Your blog is a very niche one. It will take more time to get the steady traffic. But you have some good info on the site and the traffic will come with time… perseverance!!

Sounds like a good plan, reducing the amount of posts shouldnt matter so long as your still posting quality.
