Planning to Achieve Success
Goal setting is always something good to talk about it January, right? Maybe it’s a topic I’m looking at because it’s what I’m trying to do for my own self right now. I know I’ve posted on it in the past, but I think I need a refresher. ![]()
In the first few weeks of the year, everyone always set these very ambitious goals and plans for themselves. We start out all pumped up, motivated, and invincible. We want to reach a PR5 by the next round, or we want an extra 100 RSS subscribers in a month, or we plan to comment on 15 blogs each day…. or whatever the goals may be.
I’m a huge advocate of making goals and plans. Gives us something to work toward. But in reality what happens is that we start out with all of this great momentum and inspiration and then slowly day after day when life starts to get in the way, we start to feel really overwhelmed and many of us in fact give up.
If you’ve never had this happen to you, thanks for stopping by… carry on you’re doing great!
I’m writing about it because it has happened to me before and as I’m looking to set goals now, I don’t want to happen again.
As I sit to make my goals now, I’m really planning to achieve success.
So in order for me to be successful with my goals, I need to take into consideration the circumstances that make up my life and plan for them. Using the above comment example, I know that commenting on 15 blogs each day is going to take up to 2 hours of my time. If I only have 4 hours/day to spend on all of my blogging activities, it’s highly unlikely that I can devote that kind of time to commenting. A more reasonable goal would be to comment 3 blog posts each day.
Things to help in planning and goal setting:
- Baby steps - We have to walk before we can run. Start out with small goals that are very achievable. When you reach those, it will build up your confidence and make you want to continue.
- Make the GOAL and then make the plan - It’s great to have a goal, but how do you intend on reaching it? Decide what steps you need to take to achieve success.
- Be Realistic in how many goals you choose to focus on - Often we will set too many goals to achieve and then feel disappointed when none of them get accomplished.
- Set a schedule - How many hours do you have to devote to building your blog or business in a week? Don’t plan enough work for 60 hours if you only have 30 to spend on it.
- Make a list of priorities - Do those items first. If one of your goals is to put out 3 post in a week, get them done first and use the post timestamp feature then they’re off your mind. Move on to your next priority.
- Do something each day - Even if you can only spend 1/2 in a certain day. I find that it helps me keep the goals I’m working toward fresh in my head.
- Post a list of goals by your computer - I’m visual. That list of goals posted on my computer really help keeps me focused.
- Making the to-do lists - This is another visual tool that helps me keep motivated. I love scratching things off.
Motivation is a great factor. I’m just starting to get into it for the year. I want to build the momentum slow but be able to keep it going.
What kind of goals and plans have you made for the year, how do you plan to achieve them?
Expect the Best,

Talk about coincidence; I just made a big list of things-to-do for the next couple weeks. Gotta go start working. Nice to see that you’ve started to get into the groove too. May be we can share our results after we do what we intend to do?

Uhm; apparently, there is something with the comment luv plugin in your blog. It still shows one of my old posts? I’ve been updating my blog regularly and the plugin doesn’t seem to trace the latest post? Is it just the case with me or any other commenters here?

Hi Kris,
Yes, I am starting to get back in the groove. It would be good to compare notes in a month or so and see how far we are with our plans. I’ll make a note of that.
I’m not sure what’s happening with my comment luv. Will check it out.
