Are You Using Your Time Wisely when Social Bookmarking? These are My Top Picks
I’m sure there are literally thousands of social bookmarking and social networking sites available. One could spend the entire day submitting entries and not even begin to get to all of them.
The problem is that no one has an entire day to devote to social bookmarking, so what do you do. Well, you find the ones that suit your niche. Granted there are some bookmarking sites that are very general, but many are very niche specific.
The list I’m about to share with you, are the sites that I use and seem to have some good traffic:
- StumbleUpon - I have recieved the most traffic hands down from this site, and it has a category for almost anything. (Friend Me)
- Del.icio.us - (Friend Me)
- Technorati - (Friend Me)
- Netscape - (Friend Me)
- MyBlogLog - Social Network (Friend Me)
- BlogCatalog - Social Blog Directory (FriendMe)
- Facebook - Social Network (Friend Me)
- MySpace - Social Network (Friend Me)
- PlugIM.com - A resource for Internet Marketers (Friend Me)
- Sk-rt.com - A resource for women (Friend Me)
- Bumpzee -Social Blog Directory (Friend Me)
As I was trying to create this list for you, I found that it could go on forever. One of my MBL friends has quite a good list of over 120 social bookmarking sites. Time is valuable and so I think it better to share this list with you, then try and re-invent the wheel so to speak. If you’d like to take a look at that list head over to Arsenal Marketing.
The thing that you need to remember when doing any social bookmarking is this:
Traffic Gained should equal Time Spent
If that’s not true, your spending too much time. I find that keeping up with the list above is more that I can handle most days. It’s not just a matter of submitting your story, you need to become involved. Sure you’ll get a bit of traffic if you submit your story and then log out.
Ideally you want to leverage those sites. Get to know people, form relationships. Plug other bloggers stuff if it is of interest to you. Take an interest in other bloggers. Because when you do that, they will take an interest in you. Then watch how the whole social networking game can work. It’s amazing.
Try to spend 1 - 2 hours each day with social networking and creating social bookmarks.
Expect the Best,

I am totally unorganised when it comes to social bookmarking. I find myself browsing things other people have bookmarked. I’m sorting it all out this week though. I am coming up with a daily task list which needs to be completed before I”m allowed to play.

Mike, part of the fun is stumbling other people stuff, if you like it. And then commenting, and becoming networking associates, and then… it is fun. But yes you do need to set some boundaries because 5 minutes of stumbling and read can turn into 5 hours in the blink of an eye.
No problem Joe, it’s a good list
Must have taken you alot of time.
Shaun - I’ve added you too

Heather,
Which video show you how to customize stumble? I was a beta tester for WEB 2.0 Wealth. But a few more videos came out since then. I agree with you WEB 2.0 Wealth is teh BOMB!!!!
I changed the theme from the original. Everything works except the translator and share this.

I didn’t have to do anything to share this or the translator. I added the sk-rt button, but that wasn’t a video. That was just me playing around. I’d talk to Alex, he’s always been a great help to me if something wasn’t quite right.
The plugim and sphinn it buttons are just added plug-ins from Michelle Macphearson.
Hope that helps

Hi Heather!
We had a busy holiday weekend here in the States so I am behind on my internet stuff. Thank you for mentioning my website the other day! I wanted to return the favor but I was pondering where it might be best. Most of my sites are about health and wellness. Then I remembered I have a Squidoo page devoted to Online Business Tips for Baby Boomer Women.
I know you are way to young for the baby boomer crowd but you have a lot of valuable information to share such as with today’s post.
The Squidoo page needs some work but at least it’s a start.
I am off to Florida tomorrow for a week to visit my mother. She’s 86! I won’t be online much because I have very limited access to the internet when I’m there.
Have a great week,
Lori

Have a great week with your mom. You know the great thing about being online is that it will be here when you get back.
Thanks for thinking of me too with your squidoo lens
Safe Trip,
Heather
