Some Great Weekend Fun…

I was going to do a post today on “Where have all the good memes gone”, it seems forever since I’ve been tagged with a good meme. Sometimes it’s fun just to write something a little less serious, like a meme. It’s also a great way for your readers to get to know you better.

I found a list of good memes that anyone can participate in over at Mother’s Home.

What I found yesterday, and this morning is a “Cross Blog Conversation” going on between Kelly McCausey, Nicole Dean, and Lynn Terry.

When I originally saw the post on Lynn’s blog she said:

Personally, I think more bloggers should do this, and I can see it turning into a very fun and viral phenomenon across the blogosphere. This sounds like much more fun than a plain old meme, dont you agree

I do totally agree.  I had fun reading it.  That conversation continues on back and forth between the three of them.

A cross blog conversation can have many benefits for bloggers:

  • Getting to know other bloggers.
  • A fun break in the serious everyday posts.
  • A great social networking tool.
  • A way to share traffic and links.
  • Good to do kind of an informal interview with another blogger.
  • Good to even just to share with another WAHM about different aspects of working at home.

When I did a Google search on “Cross Blog Conversation”, I was surprised to find that there were only about 4300 entries.  I think the ladies are right and this could really turn into a viral thing.

So the idea of having a cross blog conversation goes like this… One blogger will write a post asking something of another blogger.  That blogger will respond in a post on their blog (instead of simply commenting back) and ask a question back to the first blogger.

Are you up for it?

It’s Saturday so let’s have some fun.  I’d love to know a bit about a few different bloggers, and so I’m going to get the party started by asking a few questions.  Let’s see if I get a response from any of them.  ;)

Ian (Ianfernando.com) - You’ve had this blog up and running for over six months now.  In your about section, I notice that you say you learn from your mistakes and share them.  What has been your most memorable to date and what did it teach you?

Neena - You have such great parenting tips on your blog A Mom’s Life.  What would be your best tip to other WAHM’s for juggling such a busy life?

Ponn - I see your podcast this afternoon about branding :)  You’ve worked for a long time to create your online brand.  In recent memory what is something that you’ve really had great success with in building your brand?

Should be kinda fun to see the responses…

Who would you like to have a conversation with?

Expect the Best,

haha wow this is a great interactions idea:

my response: someone from Australia wanted to buy one of my domains, and he offered his price. which was pretty high too - but before I got excited and accepted I got a professional appraisal and the appraisal for my website was higher than the buyers price. I declined his offer asking him to increase the price or no deal. I didn’t end up selling the domain, but then I put it up for auction - come to find out it was not priced in the public eye as the appraisal and was far less than the original buyer!!! ..cries..

my lesson learned, don’t be greedy

Hi Mom of a Lego Kid - Thanks for stopping by :)

The dictionary definition of a meme is “a cultural item that is transmitted by repetition in a manner analogous to the biological transmission of genes.”

But basically it’s a fun, viral way for bloggers to get to know one another. Someone will tag you (and a number of other bloggers) with a meme. You do a blog post answering the meme, referencing the host and then passing it on to a group of your blogger friends.

You can take a look at a meme here: I’ve Been Tagged or One Word Meme

    hi heather,

from visiting different blogs, i encountered the word meme and seen many have blogged it. but i still cannot understand how it’s being played if it is a game. i have several questions about meme. i don’t know how i can join a meme, i feel like being an intruder if i just jump in and say i did that meme too. how do i became a participant in a meme? how to start a meme? do i have to wait to be tagged to be part of the meme? i hope you can tell me more about meme.

    thanks,
    ruby

    Hi Ruby,

There are several ways you can become involved in a meme. In this article, I referenced a page at a Mother’s HOme that has a list of memes, or you are welcome to grab one that I listed in my comments, you can start one of your own, or you can participate in one that I will be putting up next week for my anniversary.

    Hope that helps. :)
