Another Rendition of What Makes You a “Plugin Geek”
Way back in June I posted an article, What Makes You a “Plugin Geek”. This highlighted some of the plugins I was using at the time and really enjoying. Since then I’ve added some other really awesome plugins. You’ve been emailing me and asking me about them so I thought I’d share a new list… part 2 as it were.
Plugins are something that when added to your blog enhance the user experience as well as giving the blogger more option to display, track and promote different things.
Here’s my list of top 10:
Comment Relish - This is a plugin I’ve been getting many emails about. It sends out an email to the address given by a first time commenter thanking them for getting involved by leaving a comment (or whatever you want the email to say). It’s great to show your commenter that you do care they’ve visited, and does encourage them to visit and comment often.
Lucia’s Link Love - Is a plugin that is used to remove the nofollow tags. The thing that I like about this plugin is that you have some programming options. Often you will get people leaving comments just to get links and you never see them again. This plugin doesn’t remove the tag until the commentor has left at-least 3 comments. Again this encourages repeat commenting.
Comment Luv - Show the most recent post from the blog of the commenter just underneath their comment. This is a fairly new plugin, but I really like it. It encourages readers to click on articles of interest that your commentor has posted.
Live Comment Preview - Shows you what your comment will look like after it has been posted. I have caught many of my own spelling and grammatical errors this way
One Click Installer - LOVE THIS! It makes life so easy when you are trying to upload a new plugin or theme.
Subscribe to Comments - Allows readers to be notified of additional comments left on a post. Encouraging discussion and a sense of community. It also gives you options in how you want to set up the plugin.
Top Commenters - Gives some link love to the people that comment most on your blog and displays their name under the top commenter section in the side bar. I really think it is important to reward loyal readers, and loyal commenter’s.
WP-Post Views - This displays the number of times any post has been viewed. I’m a numbers girl, and I like to know
aLinks - Automatically links keywords in your blog post. Gives you options as to what keywords you want to link, and helps you monetize your blog my linking these keywords to affiliate links.
WP-Polls - Allows you display poll questions either in individual articles or in your sidebar. Really helps with reader interaction and for you to get a sense of what your readers are looking for.
So those are my top 10 favorite plugins for the time being. They really do help enhance the reader experience and allow me to give thanks to readers that get involved through comment and interaction on Home with Heather. Which of course is one of my major goals.
Just a note. These are all plugins that work for wordpress blogs. They may have versions that are compatible with other blogging platforms on the site. I don’t know because I don’t need them. I think wordpress is the best blogging platform to have, but that’s a whole other post for a whole other day.
Expect the Best,
