Don’t Let This Be You. Be Prepared.
What would you do if you woke up tomorrow, turned your computer on and got nothing.
Nothing!
Your hard drive got fried and all of your information was lost. What would you do?
For most of us that work online, our computer is our life line. We store everything on it. And I’m not even talking everything business. Everything in life is now being stored on your hard drive. Digital cameras, PDA’s, all of this advanced technology has our lives wrapped up neatly in a little box that sits beside us at our desk.
But what would happen if you woke up one day and it was all gone. Would you be prepared? Or would you be lost?
I have to admit, I’d be done.
Everyone knows they should keep a current backup. Everyone knows that it could one day save your ass. But how many of us actually take the time to do it? Or if you do, is your information secure?
I don’t. The last time I did a backup was when I upgraded to this new theme back in August. I should know better than most, when I was in system administration I did backups faithfully everyday. And let me tell you they saved me on more than one occasion. But I simply haven’t taken the time to set up a workable solution.
It happened very recently to a friend of mine, Lynn Terry. She called it the Blue Screen of Death. Luckily, she was able to recover everything after a lot of hard work and aggravation. But what if she wasn’t? All of her family photos, years worth of her online business files, thousands of dollars worth of digital products she had purchased. All lost in the blink of an eye.
It can happen that easy. Just reading about it put me into panic mode.
After doing some research, she suggested an online backup solution. I’ve signed up for it, and now I’m suggesting it to you.
Mozy offers a free online backup solution for up to 2 GB of information. Mozy Online Backup - 2GB Free or you can upgrade to UNLIMITED backup for just $4.95/month. If you’re like me, you have way more to backup than 2 GB Mozy Unlimited Backup - $4.95/Month.
I’m doing my first backup right now as I type this post. It was so easy to install and use, anyone can do it. I’ve been worrying about backups for a long time. I just never took the time to set anything up.
I’m glad Lynn found this solution. $5 bucks a month for peace of mind, that’s really nothing. Really, if you’re not doing regular backups, you need to stop thinking about it, and just go do it. Sign up for the free version and give it a try.
I wouldn’t want to ever see that “Blue Screen of Death”, would you?
Expect the Best,

Great tip, all though I prefer to have my own backup on an external HD. I actually own two of them and between those I hope that I will be covered.

[…] Check it out! While looking through the blogosphere we stumbled on an interesting post today. Here’s a quick excerpt What would you do if you woke up tomorrow, turned your computer on and got nothing. Nothing! You’re a better woman than I, Monika
If it depended on me to remember to do it, and then actually get it done… I’d be in trouble (like I was lol). I did actually consider that option - but I dont like the idea of that drive failing on me too, or that I would lose everything in the event of water or fire damage anyway. Using Mozy I could go out and buy a brand new laptop and be back in business the same day - worst case scenario.

It’s been since August since I last backed up. There are so many other things to do, we all know we SHOULD do a backup but not very many of us every actually takes the time to do them.
I like that this will be so easy, and you “set it and forget it”.

omg, I am so tired of all this Mozy blogspam. How much do you get paid for posting this? “Nothing! I do it because I really believe it!” right.

I think i have enough passion deep in my heart to start from scratch even i lost all the data in my harddisk. I think this could be a good start for the rest of my life; just like formatting a harddisk, i could open a white page in my life
Anyway, thanks for the suggestion, i will check Mozy out…
