Are You on Target to Reach Your Goals? Creating a Daily Action Plan To Help (Part 1)
Isn’t a goal really just a dream unless you’ve got a plan?
I admit, I’ve had some of the same goals for a few years. It’s kind of like a running goal list. Honestly, they aren’t goals. Using a non-business related example, for years I’ve wanted to learn how to take great family pictures. I’m not great at taking pictures, but I’m even worse at being photographed.
Being that I’ve had this objective for years and nothing has ever come of it, I wouldn’t even call it a goal. It’s a dream, or a “that would be nice” kind of thought.
What if I were to enroll in a photography course at our local college on how to create the perfect Christmas portrait, with the final exam being to do just that?
That’s something I would consider an attainable goal:
- I have a desire to do something (dream). Take good family pictures.
- I have decided what I want the outcome to look like (goal). To have a Family Christmas portrait.
- I have created a measurable plan to reach my goal (action plan). To take a weekly photography course from now until Christmas.
Turning a dream into a goal and then into an achievable goal complete with an action plan is a process. Sometimes it’s a very slow process and other times you can reach your objective very quickly.
The thing to remember about achieving any goal is to start moving toward it. Sometimes it may be baby steps that you take, but if you take a step or two everyday you’ll be certain to achieve success. The secret is to do something.
On September 1st, I posted “Goals and Plans: What Do You Plan to Accomplish this Month.” In it, I defined a set of goals that I will be working on this month, both in business and at home. In part two, I’ll share my action plan with you for a few of those goals. What steps to I need to take each day to ensure success by the end of September?
Doesn’t it feel good when you reach a goal and have accomplished what it is you set out to? Fantastic.
Working from home, it is VERY easy to get bogged down in the day to day happenings. Sometimes we forget to even create a to-do list and just seem to wonder aimlessly from one problem to the next.
In order to see growth in a business, it is vital to work a plan. Stay focused on the prize and do a lot of evaluation. That’s when things become measurable and attainable, and that’s when you can see progress.
Expect the Best,
