Are You on Target to Reach Your Goals? Creating a Daily Action Plan to Help. (Part 2)
In Part One, I talked about the difference between having dreams, goals, and action plans.
I am the kind of person that is always striving to move forward. In fact when things from my past come up and want to re-visit me, I really have the attitude of “you can’t go backwards”. It happened just the other day. I had a call from a about a girl that I use to do some work with. They asked me if I’d like to re-visit that opportunity. My answer without hesitation was no. I’ve moved on from there and to go back just would not be feasable for me, my kids, or my business.
Moving forward does require some planning. I like to set out a list of goals to achieve each month. Sometimes I post them on HWH, sometimes I don’t. This month I did, so here they are:
Business
- Increase my RSS subscriptions to minimum of 120.
- Provide quality daily blog posts for my readers including ongoing tips and tricks to increase traffic.
- Participate daily in community and social networking sites to expand my community and contacts.
- Create a free PDF to give to my readers and set up the newsletter again.
- Create, optimize and monetize a minimum of 2 Christmas sales pages (as shown in the thirty day challenge)
Home
- Pack my house to prepare for a major renovation beginning at the end of September.
- Pick paint colors, and flooring.
- Become my own master contractor, working with all the sub-contractors that I’ve hired to do the renovation.
- Work with professional involved in my children’s needs to ensure they are getting what they need. This includes atleast 3 trips to our provincial children’s hospital.
I’m going to start with my ‘Home’ list. Most of the items on this list are a matter of scheduling. So.. the day the kids went back to school, I sat down with my daytimer, and the yellow pages. I spent two hours on the phone scheduling contractors, setting up quotes, and making doctor/specialist appointments.
The result - Most of my home goals have already been scheduled or even better, completed. Yah! When you have a plan and just start doing it, things get done. Sometimes baby steps is all that it takes.
I still have to pack my house, but I’ve put time aside for that as well I’ve already requested the help of a few friends. And I still have to finish picking out the colors and flooring quotes (this should be done mid-week)
My Business Goals are a little more involved so I will just pick one…
Goal: Provide quality daily blog posts for my readers including ongoing tips and tricks to increase traffic.
This is a task that can take all week if I let it. I ideally would like to post an entry 7 days a week. Somedays, I find the need to do more, depending on if I have something exciting to say.
Action Plan: Schedule chunks of time later in the week (Thursday or Friday) to pre-write a weeks worth of blogs. These will be the first post during the day. That way, HWH will always be updated with quality content and it’s not such a daunting task. Plus, putting a time limit on the task will force me to stop going round in circles with what I’m writing.
Creating goals and action plans is a personal thing. What works for me, may not work for you. I do suggest you have a plan that you follow and that you schedule your time on purpose.
Try it for the rest of the month and see if you notice the difference in the your results.
Expect the Best,

Hi heather
This is my first time to visit your blog. I am also a goal oriented person. I keep a list of the things that I want to accomplish and makes sure that before the given timeline I will be able to accomplished them all.
It is good to keep a list of the things that you want to do because it will serve as your motivating factor.

Hi Reash - Thanks for stopping in
I wouldn’t be able to function without my lists. I can write things down as they come up and then forget them until it’s time to do it. I agree with you about a list being a motivating factor - doesn’t it feel so good when you get to scratch something off?
Hey Shaun - Sounds like your house is going through some fun with renovations too. It will look awesome when it’s done, but in the meantime things are a bit crazy around here ;). I’m intending on re-doing the entire floor upstairs, new cabinets in the kitchen, moving my washer/dryer upstairs, making a kennel and dog run for my American Bulldogs, Knocking out a few walls and a fresh coat of paint everywhere. We are actually going to move out for the major part of it. Very exciting!

Thanks YC - I know I’m guilty of setting too many goals myself.
