Way back in May, I had participated in a challenge to Increase RSS subscriptions by 500 in a month. I never did reach that goal, but I haven’t forgot about it either.

What went so wrong?

I think a few things:

•  It was the beginning of summer which is a naturally slow time online.
• The goal was pretty hefty.
• I wasn’t really committed to it. I thought it would “just happen”.

So tomorrow is September, and I want to issue a new challenge…

The plan is to increase your readership by doubling or better your RSS subscription during the month of September.

Even if you are the newest blogger and have a readership of 10, you can and should participate in this challenge. It can be a personal goal as a new blogger.

My counter has been sitting at around 60 for the last week or so. So by the end of September, I would like it to reach at minimum 120.

How is this going to be accomplished?

1. Quality Content - It doesn’t matter what your niche is, you must produce quality. Find out what it is that your niche is looking for and provide it.
2. Be an Active Participant - Get involved in your blog community. Comment other blogs, perhaps you can join a forum in your niche.
3. Use WWSGD - The Seth Godin Plugin inviting new visitors to subscribe.
4. Become really involved in social networking. It you see something that you like bookmark it. If you spend time each day helping others, that will automatically be returned in kind. (Look for my post on this over the weekend)
5. Add me to your reader - And keep checking back. Through the month of September, I plan to provide tips and tricks on increasing your subscribers.
6. Link to this post - Let others know of the challenge so they can become involved as well.
7. Leave me a Comment - Let me know that you wanna play Also, let my readers know that your blog exists… it may be something that is of interest to them as well, and will get you an increase in traffic (and more subscribers).
8. Place a Feed Counter on your site. This way you know where you’re at.

September brings the attitude of back to business and back to routine. We are on the downward run to the end of the year. Which means Christmas traffic, and Christmas sales. You want to start building for that today.
